General Fund

42% of Vallejo's 2019 – 2020 General Fund was spent on law enforcement.
A general fund is a city’s primary account, funded by taxes (like property and sales tax) and used to pay for services such as the fire department, public works, parks, community services and more.

Decision Makers

The City Manager (hired by Council) has their staff prepare and submit a Proposed Fiscal Year Budget to City Council for review. Council has the right to direct the City Manager to make changes to the budget and bring it back. A majority vote of Council is needed by June 30 to approve a new budget for it to take effect starting July 1, 2020.
